Corporate Profiteering from Water: The Need to Protect Our Water for the Common Good
Presenters: Lisa Ledwidge and Leslie Reindl
Water has been called the "oil of the 21st century." The World Bank predicts that by 2025, two-thirds of the world's population will not have enough fresh drinking water. Scarcity means profits, and multinational corporations are now reaching for those profits by taking over public water sources and systems. The presenters, members of WILPF's first Water Study Group, will focus on the threat posed by privatization of public water supplies, and on the most obvious and growing profit sector -- bottled water.

U.S. Interventions Around the World: Past, Present, and Future, WILPF "Coffee With" program
With Professor Richard Martinez and the students of Empire 101
Empire 101 was a 10-week free course held at the Jack Pine Community Center in south Minneapolis during the fall of 2006. People came together voluntarily to learn about U.S. foreign policy past and present. It could be thought of as "everything CNN won't tell you." There were no books, homework, hierarchies or grades. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of this, a lot of learning took place.
